Welcome, to Scrambles & Rambles, my first website! Please bear with me, this site is under construction. :) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I’ve created this website to share my pictures and experiences from my trips to the mountains. While some already know what scrambling is all about, I should define it a bit for my non-scrambling friends. Scrambling is the non-technical climbing of a mountain, usually to the summit (and hopefully back). This basically means: steep hiking, using your hands to steady yourself, occasional free climbing in and on dangerous precipices and crevices, crab-crawling (or inverted-spidering, depending on your creature preference), butt-scooting on knife-edged ridges and snowslopes, and other ungraceful, embarrassing moves. Fortunately, I’m well suited to, and naturally inclined to move in this manner. Phew! Thanks to Alan Kane for his book Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies! I would have never realized what I could do without it. 2006 Update: In the past year, I have discovered Gillean Daffern’s wonderful guides to Kananaskis Country. These two books are an invaluable resource for further exploration within the mountains. Thanks to Gillean for Vol.1& 2 of the Kananaskis Country Trail Guide. Stories, comments, questions and advice welcomed! |
